ASTM A380 Passivation

As the trusted leader in stainless steel passivation, Delstar Metal Finishing offers passivation services that meet the requirements of ASTM A380.  The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) develops and maintains a wide range of technical standards, including those for metal passivation services.

ASTM A380 Passivation

The ASTM A380 passivation standard includes best practices for the cleaning, surface finishing (descaling), and passivation of stainless steel parts, equipment, and systems.  ASTM A380 focuses on the processes necessary to remove surface contaminants from new stainless steel parts, equipment, and systems that may impair normal corrosion resistance, or result in the later contamination of the particular stainless steel grade, or cause product contamination.

The standard covers recommendations and precautions for each stage of the passivation process, and it provides tests and acceptance criteria to determine the procedures for cleaning, descaling, and passivation were successful.

ASTM A380 v. ASTM A967

ASTM A380 focuses on the processes to remove surface contaminants from new stainless steel parts, equipment, and systems.  ASTM A967 covers the different types of chemical passivation treatments for stainless steel parts.

Delstar Metal Finishing offers stainless steel passivation services that meet both ASTM A380 and ASTM A967.  To learn more about our passivation capabilities, contact a team member today!
