Electropolishing is an electrochemical process similar to, but
the reverse of, electroplating. The electropolishing process smoothes
and streamlines the microscopic surface of a metal object. As a
result, the surface of the metal is microscopically featureless,
with not even the smallest speck of a torn surface remaining.

Passivation is the chemical treatment of a stainless steel surface
with a mild oxidant such as a nitric acid or citric acid solution.
This is typically done to remove any "free-iron" from the surface
of the metal, which enhances the corrosion resistance of the stainless
steel surface and accelerates the re-formation of the passive layer.

Pickling (Chemical Descaling) is typically used to remove oxide
layers resulting from welding, heat-treating, and other high temperature
operations. All of these oxide layers are generally referred to
as "scale" and must be removed prior to Electropolishing or Passivating.
Pickling is sometimes referred to as "Acid Washing" or "White Acid
Pickling".
